In the movie "Da Vinci Code" right near the end, Langdon is outside the Louvre with the thought in his mind "adorned in masters’ loving art she lies".. and just then the camera flashes to a painting containing the face of a beautiful woman.. I’m wondering what the name and who is the artist of that painting..
(I’m assuming it is a painting in the Louvre)
Thanks!
It’s definitely not "madonna of the rocks"… I just looked at it again and here is a more illuminating description:
The woman has long brown hair, her eyes are cast downward, and she is dressed in orange or red with a white scarf tied into a knot at her left shoulder. On her left is a bearded man and on her right is an older woman who looks a bit like a nun. The woman in red is holding a child that appears to be naked (at least from the waist up).. and there is another child to her left looking at the child she is holding. I cannot tell for sure but it would appear as if the painting is outdoors, as it seems as if there are mountains in the distance.
Hope this helps!
Good idea! Here is a screencapture of the painting!

It’s difficult to say who the painter is, because we need visual information to know.
For your description I can say it’s a scene of Joseph, Maria and Jesus, with St Anne and John The Baptist.
Leonardo has a drawing with that theme, but doesn’t fit you description as it doesn’t have colors and it’s at the national gallery in London.
If you could take a pic of the movie and upload it we could definitely find out.
Thanks for uploading the pic, that was easier…
It’s by Agnolo Bronzino (a.k.a. Angelo Bronzino)
the holy family with st anne and st john the baptist
woohoo, at least I was correct at the theme!
and yes, it’s in the louvre
I like Bronzino a lot. You have good taste!

I’ve got a painting given to me quite some time ago that I don’t really like, and I have no idea who the artist is. My wife and I have both tried to read the signature with no luck, and I’ve searched through several art websites trying to find it, but I haven’t been able to. Does anybody no of a place (preferrably in the seattle area) that can identify it?
One thing that you can do is; Take good clear photographs of the artist’s signatures and of the painting then go to http://photobucket.com/ or http://photobucket.com/ for free, and Up load and post the photographs of your painting to reputable on line appraisers.

You can also go to a museum curator, often they are willing to help someone identify and establish the current market value as can a reputable curator of a fine Art gallery.
For the seattle area, just type in your city into one of the links above.

The painting was restored in Memphis, Tn in Aug. of 1946 by a Valerie Ganong at 683 Rozelle.
You would have to post a photo of the painting for opinions. No-one here is likely to remember Valerie Ganong.
I am looking for the name of painting and artist. This is a pic of a white women sitting in a chair dressed with a hat and umbrella at her side while a black maid is at the fire place dressed in a head wrap and long slave like dress. There is a cat eating as well.
I have pic.
I’m not sure if this will be of any help but try going to the website www.nga.gov which is the national gallery of art. They have all kinds of art dating from the early 1800’s till now. They have paintings, pictures and sculptures. You may be able to find what your looking for there.
This video shows some selected clips from the video produced during the month it took the artist to create her painting “Two Chairs” with acrylics on canvas. See the whole video with explanatory subtitles here: http://www.mindbites.com/lesson/5593-realistic-painting-with-acrylics-two-chairs

i thinks it’s in acrylic. and its about five black and brown women uder dryers with their hair in towels. some have their legs crossed and they are wering robes. there is a man knealing in front of each woman painting or cleaning their toenails. i don’t know the title or the artist and i saw it in a salon. it’s supposed to be really popular. HELP….need for art project.
Are you thinking it might be by an African-American artist? A British artist who does that sort of scene is Beryl Cook, but I think most of her subjects are white (and English!).
