How do artists influence, inspire and affect change in the world?

Posted by admin on October 18th, 2010 and filed under artists | 1 Comment »

Im doing a unit in Art on how artist influence change in the world, change their styles of art based on world influence, or how they changed as a person through art. Basically anything about ‘change’. Does anyone know anything about artists that did this such as Picasso, Salvador Dali, Rauschenburg, Hockney, Escher, Anish Kapoor etc.?
Also, do you have a better example(s) of an artist creating ‘change’ or being changed?

If you take an artist like Dali, you can look at his effects on the art world starting with Dadaism and the ensuing Surrealist movement which grew out of Dadaism. His works and his contemporaries’ works were influenced by the Marxist dialectic as well, which impacted on what they produced. Dali was influenced at an earlier stage by the horrors or WWI which was one of the primary concerns of Dadaism. Picasso and his most famous Cubist work, Guernica, were also influenced by the horrors of war.

How much do artists make for selling art to wholesale retailers?

I was contacted by a company that sells art in the hospitality market, hotels, large corporations etc they are interested in my artwork. Does anyone know how this market works and how much artists typically make? Can anyone explain the process so I am prepared or let me know of any resources to find the info?

Artists have a God gifted miracle in their hands and they can make alot of money buying selling it. If you are an artist, I will advise you to put your pieces of master arts on net for sale and make a bid for them..

Why are artists and musicians seem to be always attracted to damaged girls?

Posted by admin on October 12th, 2010 and filed under artists | 13 Comments »

I really like artistic guys like musicians, poets, writers and so on but those kind of guys somehow are always attracted to the mysterious girls who seem to be depressed, shy and artists themselves.
Why?

Cool question:)
I think it’s b/c they are more interesting.
As a musician, I feel like society does not understands me…..especially when society would rather listen to pop singers, than people like me…..who have LITERALLY lived in the practice room for many years. That’s why I would rather be with a poet or artist….I don’t want to date or marry someone who calls my craft "stupid" or "boring."
Frankly, those kinds of girls usually understand me.

What are some good websites where artists post pix of their work and give each other feedback?

Posted by admin on April 16th, 2010 and filed under artists | 1 Comment »

I have realllllly slow dialup, so it takes forever to do my own research just clicking around. Anway, I’m learning to oilpaint, and I live in an isolated rural area, and there are no painting classes or groups anywhere. So I am wondering if there are some good online artists groups, where people can give each other feedback and encouragement and help solve problems? Thanks!!! Has to be something that will work with dialup, so nothing where people post super high resolution.

You would enjoy Wetcanvas at www.wetcanvas.com

Wetcanvas is a free international site of about 165,000 registered artists. You can join with just an email address (no spam). The site has forums for all kinds of art. The oil painting forum is very friendly, and full of both beginners and professionals. They discuss all kinds of painting problems, play games about oil painting, and post their works for help or comment. A good place to make friends. I can get Wetcanvas on my old dialup connection.

You can also post your artworks for free on places like Flickr at www.flickr.com. If you join art groups on that site and post your pieces in the groups, people will comment and help you with suggestions. Many artists put paintings in progress (unfinished), so others can see how they work.

Good luck with your creating!

How/where do magicians and escape artists learn to pick locks?

Posted by admin on April 14th, 2010 and filed under artists | 1 Comment »

Everyone has heard of magicians and escape artists that pick their way out of handcuffs and padlocked chains and that kind of stuff; but where do they learn to pick locks?
I know magicians learn from books or stores or other magicians and then progressively go into bigger stuff, but how in the world do they learn to pick locks so well?
I’ve looked and I can’t find any books or anything on it. Can anyone help?
I’m an amateur magician and I really want to get into escape acts.

I have been an amateur magician for about 30 years, I learned to pick locks by 1st takeing them apart, (Houdini learned the same way) I learned the hard way. And truth be told, nowadays most locks cannot be picked. Most Magicians now a days use trick locks that can be found in any magic store.

How many songs do opening artists usually play at concerts?

Posted by admin on April 12th, 2010 and filed under artists | 5 Comments »

ofHuman is playing at the Newport Music Hall on May 1st, the opening artists are Twenty One Pilots and Absent Effect. I’m mainly going for Twenty One Pilots, but I’ve heard that opening artists usually only play 2 or 3 songs. I don’t want to pay 10 dollars for 3 songs…
Haha, I know $10 is cheap. It’s just that three people will be going, and I didn’t want to get my hopes up for a 45 minute set or anything.

well, id go anyway so what if its 10 bucks (which is a great deal for a concert) and so what if they only play 3 songs maybe you’ll start to like the other groups as well

K’naan’s Wavin’ Flag cover by Young Canadian Artists for Haiti. All artist names are listed below lyrics, just scroll down.
Lyrics:
(All)
when I get older I will be
stronger they’ll call me freedom just
like a wavin’ flag

(Knaan)
Born to a throne
Older than rome
But violent prone
Poor people zone

(Nelly Furtado)
But it’s my home,
all I have known

(Sam Roberts)
where i got grown
but now its gone

(Avril Lavigne)
Out of the darkness
in came the carnage
threatening my very survival

(Pierre Bouvier of Simple)
fractured my streets
and broke all my dreams

(Tyler Connolly of Theory of a Deadman)
now feels like defeat
to wretched retreat

(All & Kardinal Offishall)
(so we struggling)
fighting to eat
(and we wondering)
if we’ll be free

Jully Black:
we cannot wait
for some faithful day
it’s too far away
so right now I say

(All)
when I get older I will be
stronger they’ll call me freedom just
like a waving flag
and then it goes back (3x)
Wahhhoooh

(Lights)
so many wars
settling scores

(Deryck Whibley of Sum 41)
all that we’ve been through
and now there is more

(Serena Ryder)
I hear them say
love is the way

(Jacob Hoggard of Hedley)
love is the answer
that’s what they say

(Emily Haines of Metric)
but were not just dreamers
of broken down breathers

(Hawksley Workman — known as Hawksley Workman)
a hand will reach us
and si buenos dias

(Drake)
they can’t control us
no it can’t hold us down

(Chin Injeti)
we gonna pick it up even though we still

(Pierre Lapointe)
strugglin
Au nom de la survie
and we wondering
Batant pour nos vies

(Esthero & Corb Lund)
who patiently wait
for some other day

(Esthero & Fefe Dobson)
that’s too far away
so right now I say

(All)
when I get older I will be
stronger they’ll call me freedom just
like a waving flag
and then it goes back (3x)
Wahhhoooh

when I get older I will be
stronger they’ll call me freedom just
like a waving flag
and then it goes back (3x)
Wahhhoooh

(Drake)
how come when the media stops covering
and it’s a little help from the government
and we forget about the people still struggling
and soon then it’s really all love again
nah see we don’t have to wait for things to break apart
if you weren’t involved before
it’s never too late to start
you probably think that it’s too far to even have to care
well take a look at where you live
what if it happened there
you have to know the earths to make a change lies within
and we can be the reason they see their flag rise again

(Nikki Yanofsky & Drake)
when I get older I will be
stronger they’ll call me freedom just
like a waving flag
and then it goes back (3x)
Wahhhoooh

when I get older I will be
stronger they’ll call me freedom just
like a waving flag
and then it goes back (3x)
Wahhhoooh

(Justin Bieber)
when I get older
when I get older
I will be stronger
just like a wavin flag

What is the music website where artists can work together around the world?

Posted by admin on April 10th, 2010 and filed under artists | 2 Comments »

I heard aboiut some website on the daily show or colbert report (can’t remember which) where artists can upload their music and find someone elses music and they can create songs all on this website from around the world. I can’t remember what its called.

I’m not sure of the website. But I do listen to music all day long.
