I have some art prints by a local artist and I want to sell them. What is the best way to do this?

Well done digital photographs of the art to start. Without leaving the house, you can open up an eBay account and submit for auction. Otherwise, you’ll have to look up "art curators" in your local yellow pages to get an opinion. Small galleries will sell paintings for a fee or a percentage.

does anybody know how to tell the difference between real artist painting and a copy?

who would you take it to in order to find out? I have a painting by Frederick Remington and I would like to know if it is the real deal. it is framed under glass.

Most framers and most art galleries could tell you in a minute if it’s the real thing or a print.

Are the ideas of a contemporary artist are more significant than the techniques and media they use?

If your speaking about the contemporary artists (postmodernists) such as performance artists, then yes, the concept is far greater than the actual subject matter and technique. Its hard to get, but the work gets its meaning from the viewer rather than the artists intensions, meaning or technique. Like dadaism. Contemporary, yet the works were not meant to be seen as beautiful, but rather as a concept or idea.

What kind of pencils do professional artists use when they do sketches?

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under artists | 2 Comments »

I’m not much of an artist but I prefer pencil more than anything when I draw, but I was wondering is there any specific pencil that artists use? Can you get them at craft stores or something?

Students can get hung up on brand names and lines of products, but, at the professional level, artists use whatever tools are most comfortable.

Example, I have seen and hears all kinds of discussions about the "best" color pencils and brands are tossed about, like Derwent, Pantone and others. But I can tell you from experience that I am very happy with my twelve piece Prang set. Yes, these are available at art and craft stores, but I’ve seen Prang color pencils in toy stores and on the school supply shelves in GROCERY stores.

And, if you are asking about drawing pencils, I get a chuckle, thinking about all those classes I took, learing about the different grades and hardnesses of drawing pencils. You know, I am very happy with plain, ordinary, yellow number two pencils you can get for under $2 a dozen. I’m enough of an artist that I can press harder, or softer as I need to, instead of reaching for ANOTHER pencil. And guess what? I am capable of operating a pencil sharpener all by myself.

Still, I hope you get the help you need from other answers. I am aware that some people would rather learn by making mistakes for themselves. Just remember, it’s not so much the tools that make for good artwork. It’s the results that count, and the results depend on the artist.
