I have spent the last 5 years majoring in art at a good private college. I will graduate in 2 semesters. After spending all of that time and $ I don’t feel like I’m any better of an artist than I was when I started. I’ve had their drawing 1 and 2 classes, their painting classes etc and I’m still at the same level that I started at. I draw and paint as well as anyone in my classes but when you look at the artwork of the people who do work for movies or people who do illustrations for magazines we don’t compare. I look at the masters and wonder how they got so good. What type of schools teach you to draw, paint, express on that level. I have even noticed that there are students graduating who cant even draw at the basic levels. And some of them are going to be art teachers. Who teaches the really good artist how to get that good? Where do I need to go? I don’t want to start studying at some school that teaches art and not be any better than I am now.

I have asked a couple of times but no response. I suspect the artist is in the field.
Thanks!

Those are my photos, sorry if I have missed the question in the past.
For ease of printing and cost effectiveness, I supply any prints from these photos on Ilford true black and white paper through MPix. I have also had them printed on canvas through Simply Canvas.
You can go to my profile and send me an email if there is any particular photo you would like printed.
I have had many of these sell at art galleries and one is being published in Light Leaks magazine.

P.S. Thanks for the appreciation!
The painting was a woman and a child sleeping on a couch with a man kissing the womans hand.On a book on the floor it says M. Goodman and the date 1902.
Sounds like this is a painting by the British artist, Maude Goodman (1860-1938). Her works (complete list of works) are very hard to find. Good luck. I’m not sure what the title could be.
your paintings should be unique
they must be mordern in style or design
you should know "how to express yourself through a painting"
good colour combinations are very important
more practice, more attractive paintings
I am going to red a portrait of the artist as a young man by james joyce. is th anything that I should know before I commence, such as historical context or certain philosophical ideas or even about certain places mentioned in the book. are there any other books that had an influence on this one that you recommend having read first?
